Forward Theatre Project

We’re very excited to announce a new exclusive residency with Forward Theatre Project who will be creating a brand new piece of work commissioned by the TakeOver Board. Forward Theatre Project is a collective of 25 emerging theatre directors, writers and designers led by Artistic Director Charlotte Bennett. FTP was formed during TakeOver 09 Festival at York Theatre Royal and is now an associate company of Paines Plough. The collective work to build relationships between emerging theatre artists and regional theatres and to create a community amongst peers. FTP have produced shows at the National Theatre, York Theatre Royal, Northern Stage, Live Theatre and been on attachment to Manchester Royal Exchange and Portsmouth Theatre Royal. In 2010 the company was nominated for the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Breakthrough Fund. See www.forwardtheatreproject.co.uk

The Residency

As part of TakeOver12, the TakeOver team have been given the opportunity to commission a group of artists from FTP to create a brand new piece of theatre for an under 26 year old audience in York. FTP have submitted eight proposals which are currently being read by the TakeOver team who will then choose which proposal they want to select for a one month research and development period through which the FTP artists will work directly with young people in York to develop their piece of theatre and then to be presented as part of the TakeOver Festival in May-June 2012. The residency offers the TakeOver team the opportunity to experience and influence how theatre is commissioned and made from initial ideas through to full production. The chosen proposal will be announced in mid-December, watch this space!!!
